My name is Megan Hanks and I am a wife and mother of three children ages 20, 17, and 14. I
am also the co-owner of a new boutique in downtown Muskegon called Clove and Crown. My
two sisters and I own and operate the boutique together. Being life-long citizens, we feel pride
and ownership in our hometown and are excited to be part of its continued growth. We hope
the future brings more small businesses downtown and continued growth and success at Clove
and Crown.
With that being said, I’ve always felt my most important work is done at home. Raising three
children in the current political climate has not been an easy task. Thankfully, my family enjoys
politics and eating together often, and my children have grown up listening to their parents,
grandparents, aunts, and uncles discussing current events and our conservative viewpoints on a
regular basis. I feel strongly that those dinner time conversations have helped them navigate a
very biased public education system. But when Covid broke out and schools closed their doors
and required masks, it was time for me to get involved.
Being in the spotlight and shaking things up is not my favorite thing, but after a whole year of
online and part time in person learning, I had to speak up. My kids’ grades were suffering and I
knew so many kids were struggling with the isolation and uncertainty. I decided enough was
enough and gathered up my sister and a few other moms to write a letter to the school board.
The letter spelled out the obvious dangers of keeping kids out of school, the lack of proof that
masks were effective, and the lack of data showing Covid was somehow deadly for kids. I read
and submitted this letter to our school board and stated our case that kids needed to be back in
school, and they reversed their decision to be online only,
This advocacy for our kids led me to meeting some other concerned moms and grandmas who
were just beginning to form a new group, Muskegon County Conservative Women’s Caucus.
We became an official PAC the summer of 2021, and have been advocating for conservative
values in our area ever since. We host monthly gatherings that educate our audience about
political hot topics. We often feature political candidates running for office so that we can
make educated decisions in the voting booth. And we raise funds to put up signs, billboards,
and other advertisements for candidates and proposals. The Caucus has provided me with a
way to make a difference in our community and to try to preserve conservative values for my
kids and future generations. The MCCWC board and I would love for you to join us for our 3 rd
annual banquet featuring Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Rep. John Moolenaar (R-MI) on
September 7. It should be a remarkable and inspiring night and your ticket sale will enable us
to further advocate for families, the unborn, limited government, and other conservative
values. If you would like to learn more about our group or the banquet, please visit our website
at www.muskegonconservativewomen.org. If you decide to attend the banquet, my sisters and
I would love to offer you a one-time coupon of 10 percent off your total purchase at Clove and
